TE1WiRMay2020 Art-hotel Panorama
From May 2 till May 16, 2020 Art-hotel Panorama in Pyrgadikia will organize a writer-in-residence program in its premises. Languages: Greek, English, German.
Pyrgadikia is a small fishing village in Halkidiki, the distance to Thessaloniki, the capital of Northern Greece, is about 100km.
The maximum number of participants will be 9. During the residency period there will be no other guests in the hotel. But for local writers, artists or literature lovers, who are interested in meeting the participants, there will be the possibility , after consultation with the management, to stay in the hotel for 1 or 2 nights.
The basic aim of this residency is to offer writers a space where they can concentrate on their work, and to give them the opportunity to meet colleagues. Besides this, participants will get in touch with Greek culture and will have the possibility to enjoy the surrounding landscape (especially attractive during Spring!) and the sea.
-May 2, Saturday: Arrival of participants.
-May 3, Sunday: In the evening there will be a live performance of Greek traditional music in the hotel; while listening to the music guests can sample Greek wine, raki and snacks.
-May 9-10, Saturday-Sunday: This weekend it will be possible to organize a sight-seeing tour tailored to the wishes of the guests.
From May 9-12 there will be an International Book Fair in Thessaloniki. An excursion to this event could be organized.
-May 16, Saturday: After breakfast transfer to Thessaloniki; participants can drop off their luggage at the hotel where they will stay for the night. Short walking tour in Ano Poli (the old upper part of town) followed by a lunch in a tavern there. After lunch there will be a meeting with local writers and literature lovers in the venue of publishing house “Eneken” in the centre of the city. Participants in the residency program can present their own texts there. After this meeting there will be a joint farewell dinner in a nearby restaurant.
The fee for the whole residency period is 750 Euro; this includes:
-a room with a balcony overlooking the harbor, with private bathroom, 2 beds and a small fridge, but no Wi-Fi (this is only available in common spaces) and no TV (which can’t be found in the whole hotel).
-breakfast (in the hotel) and lunch (a special dish for the day served in a local restaurant).
-the wine, raki and snacks offered during the live music performance on May 3.
- an A4 printer for the writers to use.
--a posting of a text, produced during the residency, on the website of Art-hotel Panorama.
Not included are:
-an optional excursion on May 9 or 10
-transfer from Pyrgadikia to Thessaloniki on Saturday, May 16, overnight hotel stay, lunch and farewell dinner on that day.
-transport during the residency period; for instance a taxi to Aghios Nikolaos (participants can lower these expenses by sharing a taxi).
In Pyrgadikia you can find a choice of restaurants and cafes, one mini-market for daily necessities and a bakery, but no bank, no ATM, no health centre and no pharmacy. In Aghios Nikolaos, 17km away, there is a health centre, a pharmacy and a post office. In Arnea, 25km away, you can find a bank, a pharmacy, a supermarket and a postoffice.
How to reach Art-hotel Panorama.
The nearest airport is Macedonia Airport located on the eastern part of Thessaloniki. From the airport you can take a taxi to the KTEL-bus station Halkidiki, this will cost 7-10 Euro. From the bus station you can take a bus to Arnea or Aghios Nikolaos; timetables you can find on www.ktel-chalkidiki.gr From Aghios Nikolaos you can take a taxi to Pyrgadikia for around 25 Euro. If you wish to stay in Thessaloniki before travelling to Pyrgadikia, you can take bus nr. 78 to the city centre. You can also rent a car at the airport.

Within 10 days after sending us your application, we will inform you by email if you have been accepted or not.
After a positive reply you need to make a money transfer of 150 Euro to our bank account.
As soon as we have received your deposit of 150 Euro, we will send you a confirmation of your reservation.
The remaining 600 Euro will have to be paid cash on arrival or we must have received this amount in our bank account by April 24, 2020.
The deadline for applications is March 15, 2020. In case the program will have been fully booked before that date it will be announced on our website.
